James has worked with children, families, and schools for roughly 20 years and began to introduce Nonviolent Communication into his work with children about 15 years ago. James has also been deeply influenced by the concepts of liberation theory. Overlapping nonviolent communication with a practice of liberation is a central part of the therapeutic work he does and the life he lives.
James is originally from Eastside San Jose and arrived in Los Angeles in 2009 from San Francisco where he went to undergraduate and graduate school. He worked as a therapeutic behavioral specialist, with clients all over LA for 8 years. He joined Echo Parenting & Education in July 2017 and helped update their curriculum and approach. He is still the lead trauma-informed, nonviolent parent educator and professional development trainer there.
His work and understanding of the world are deeply informed by an analysis of the painful patterns/choices individuals, families, and communities make, and the potential for love, and healing that can happen when power is shared, healing happens, and people come back in touch with their individual and shared humanity. He continues to work with families individually and is proud to be the program manager at Wolf Connection. He has brought experience and practice to Wolf Connection and helped update their curriculum and approach as well.
