Omak's Story

Omak was a gentle giant and the proud Alpha of his pack until March 2019. Abandoned by his previous owner, he was taken in by a neighbor. Unfortunately, Omak managed to escape, spending several months roaming the neighborhood and the nearby hillside despite repeated efforts by Animal Control to capture him. Eventually, he was caught and, due to concerns about his perceived aggression, Animal Control planned to euthanize him.

Instead, Omak was darted, placed in a metal box, and transported over five hundred miles to Wolf Connection. Understandably, he was not a happy camper upon arrival. However, after a few weeks in his new environment, Omak began to open up and trust those around him. Staff members quickly noticed an overwhelming sense of loneliness that seemed to envelop him. It became clear that he had not been accustomed to receiving loving touch, which made his journey to connection all the more poignant.

Gradually, Omak learned to give and receive gentle nuzzles, transforming into a remarkable leader within the pack. His strength and gentle nature inspired those around him, and he quickly became a beloved figure among staff and fellow wolves alike.

In 2018, Omak received a cancer diagnosis that ultimately led to the amputation of his front left leg. Despite this challenge, he gifted his pack with five additional months of health and love as their Alpha. During this time, Omak forged a special bond with Kenai, the rising Alpha. The two spent countless hours communing through their habitats, mirroring each other’s howls in a beautiful display of connection. A true Alpha understands that the well-being of the pack depends on preparing the next leader for future challenges, and Omak embraced this role with grace and wisdom, ensuring that Kenai was ready to carry on the legacy of leadership.
