Shima's Story

Shima, a name given to her by the Wolf Connection team, means “mother” in Navajo. Though her time with us was brief, she imparted a remarkable blend of youthful wisdom and profound depth to the entire Wolf Connection pack. As Lao Tzu wisely noted, “The flame that burns twice as bright burns half as long,” and Shima truly embodied this sentiment.

When Shima arrived, she was pregnant but sadly lost her pregnancy shortly thereafter. Various factors can lead to a wolf mother absorbing her pups, with stress being a significant contributor. Yet, Shima faced this adversity with incredible resilience and grace. Despite her loss, she radiated curiosity, playfulness, and confidence, embracing each day as an opportunity to express herself fully. With a wild heart and a deep sense of self, she engaged with everyone around her, leaving a lasting impact on all who met her.

Once her body had healed enough for spaying, unforeseen complications arose during the procedure, necessitating an emergency blood transfusion. Her recovery was fraught with challenges, and ultimately, her body succumbed to a serious infection that could not be overcome.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of Shima’s sponsors and supporters, whose generosity enabled us to provide her with multiple emergency surgeries and transfusions. Your love and support gave her the fighting chance she deserved, and for that, we are eternally grateful. Shima’s spirit will forever remain a part of Wolf Connection, reminding us of the strength and beauty found in the wild.
